Thongchai Winichakul, Emeritus Professor
Thai historian, is Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also Research Fellow Emeritus at the Institute of Developing Economies, JETRO. His major works include Siam Mapped: A History of the Geo-Body of a Nation (1997), Moments of Silence: the Unforgetting of the October 6, 1976, Massacre in Bangkok (2020).
He stayed at Center for Southeast Asian Studies for six months from January 2015, as Visiting Research Scholar.

「たんけん動画　地域研究へようこそ」は、京都大学東南アジア地域研究研究所が配信する研究紹介動画シリーズです。所員のフィールド活動や研究内容を広く公開し、最新の地域研究とそれに取り組む研究者の姿を紹介することを目的とします。

今回は、福岡アジア文化賞2023年（第33回）大賞の授賞を記念して、2023年9月20日に京都においてトンチャイ・ウィニッチャクン氏にインタビューを行いました。

■出演者：トンチャイ・ウィニッチャクン（Thongchai Winichakul）
タイ人の歴史学者。ウィスコンシン大学マディソン校名誉教授。アジア経済研究所名誉研究員。代表的著作にSiam Mapped: A History of the Geo-Body of a Nation（1997年、邦訳：石井米雄訳『地図がつくったタイ』2003年）やMoments of Silence: The Unforgetting of the October 6, 1976, Massacre in Bangkok（2020年）がある。
2015年1月から半年間、京都大学東南アジア研究所（現：東南アジア地域研究研究所）に招へい研究員として滞在。
