Sultanah Nahrasyiah was the first known female leader in Southeast Asia. She ruled Kerajaan Sumatera Pasai (today known as Kerajaan Samudera Pasai) for 22 years. Her tomb (MAHS-IDN-ACH-AUT-SMD-S-022) is located in the complex of the second period of Acehnese royal graves, right next to the tomb of her father, Zainal Abidin. Her tomb was built from marble imported from Gujarat, India. It is believed that the Sultanah’s body is still in the tomb. The tomb is decorated with carved inscriptions, including the Surah Yasin; Surah Ali Imran: 18-19; and Al Baqarah 256 and 285-286. There are only two tombs in the area containing the Surah Yasin. The other one is the tomb of Sultan Agung Aceh Darussalam.
This interview features Raja Khan Al-Basawi a caretaker of the Makam Sultanah Nahrasyiah.
